Last Friday, June 24, 2016 was a very busy and exciting day. We had our Cross Timbers Rotary Luncheon, closing out the year and brining in the new Board of Directors.
WTF received a grant for $700.00 to be applied to our upcoming International Overdose Awareness Day, which is August 31st. This is a very important event for us, but by no means is it fun. When WTF was announced as a recipient, there were cheers and lots of noise in the room. These funds are like a present from Heaven to us. They educate, they support and they provide our community with resources. It is difficult to find organizations that want to give funds to combat drugs. Hungry puppies are so much more attractive.
Then in the late afternoon, I had a meeting with Lori and Bentley Ford. Lori presented WTF with a grant from Enterprise Holdings Foundation for $1,000.00. This was the 3rd year that she has presented us a grant for the work that we are doing.
We talked in depth of some of the projects coming up as well as some of the challenges that we face. She knows the work that we do.
WTF has been up and running for over 6 years. I have seen fear, sadness, loss, and even a glimmer of happiness in the families that we serve. We are now starting to see those that don’t need our help, begin to understand that others do, and they are becoming much more supportive. Life if difficult under the best circumstances. Add in the evil of drugs hijacking a loved one, and we need to bond together to support, plan and figure out a way to beat the enemy without casualties.
Life is a challenge and God put me on a mission. These funds help build the army that goes to battle daily. God bless our families. I believe we are in for a long war, but I already see victories in many of the battles.
